This webinar was presented by Russell Scott, Service Development Manager at NHS24, and Richard Parkinson, Director of Farrpoint, who provided an update on technical standards recommendations including the use of SCAIP and Cenelec.

- property exit sensors,
- extreme temperature, flood, fall, movement detectors.
The Health and social care plan of the Scottish govt is defined as “ Digital technology is key to transforming health and social care services so that care can become more person-centered”. 2017 about 70% of calls are received from the persons who are above 70.

Difference between SCAIP ans TS 50134-9

The SCAIP standard enables connection and communication between Telecare units and alarm centers via IP networks. The protocol not only allows the signaling of alarms, but it also enables voice and video calls between the alarm center and the Telecare unit. In Swedish standard there in encryption of signaling, the voice may be transferred without any problem but the video may face problems. TS50134-9 has solved all the problems and now there are no technical issues found there.
SCAIP can work with a variety of digital alarms, that are manufactured by different companies but the
TS50134-9 has a working capability with limited suppliers. This issue will be solved when the demand for TS50134-9 increased. It can be upgraded by software for some devices but for some devices, it needs to be replaced.

Sen elect alarms are recommended for dispersed alarms.
A fixed broadband connection is required for SCAIP while it is recommended to use TS50134-9 if available. NowIP is used for group schemes. Soon, the devices that used digital protocols will be common in the market.
Developing technical standards

European Standard Organization (ESOs) is an officially recognized body by the European Commission. The technical committee is a decision making body of CENLEC that prepare their publications. It defines protocols for fire alarm systems, CCTV, and social alarm systems.

It also serves as a member of the International standard organization (ISO) on the behalf of UK. These steps may take a time of 5 months, depends on the complexity and types of standards. The national committee also considers other stakeholders, such as customers and suppliers. This is the time when actual discussion and objections are made. It may go further for approval or backward for modification. These standards also required clarification for approval from the National Committee.
Social alarm standard
